New Year’s Baby Delivered Early Morning at GBRH on Jan. 2
January 2, 2012
At 2:36 a.m.Jan. 2, Alicia Bryant gave birth to the New Year’s baby of Barton County for 2012. Shayla-ann Michelle Ploutz entered the world, weighing 6 pounds and 4 ounces and measuring 19 inches in length.
“It was a very long 18 hours, that’s for sure,” said the baby’s father, Jon Ploutz. “Alicia was exhausted, but she’s better now.”

Bikers Spread Christmas Cheer to County’s Hospital Patients

Local bikers teamed up with Santa and Mrs. Claus to bring at least a hint of holiday cheer to hospital patients in Barton County. Members from two area motorcycle clubs – Bikers of Central Kansas and Sidewinders of Kansas – spent Sunday afternoon delivering special Christmas ornaments to the three hospitals in the county: Clara Barton Hospital, Ellinwood District Hospital, and Great Bend Regional Hospital.

GBRH Employees Bolster Family Crisis Center Christmas Gift Program

Twenty-one years ago, Laura Patzner served as child advocate for the Family Crisis Center. A little boy’s world was in a state of upheaval during Christmastime. He asked Patzner, “How’s Santa going to know where I am now?” That question broke her heart. The idea behind “Operation Santa Cause” was born then, right there on the spot.

Great Bend Regional Hospital Donation Enhances Recess for Park Elementary Students

Great Bend Regional Hospital is helping Park Elementary School students to stay active. The hospital provided a donation that is for the purchase of playground equipment, as well as indoor activity games. New jump ropes, balls and activity games are expected to arrive at the school in about a week.

120 Get Into ‘Human (e)Motion’ to Benefit Great Bend Family Crisis Center
June 18, 2011
A large turnout gathered to run, bike ride and/or walk during Great Bend Regional Hospital’s inaugural Human (e)Motion event on June 18. All totaled, 120 athletes and 45 volunteers participated in the event, which raised funds for the Great Bend Family Crisis Center from race proceeds.
