Vestibular Balance Training

Balance is one of the most essential and automatic functions in life. It is the key for humans in our relationship to gravity and our environment. Loss of balance can have serious consequences. Psychological trauma and fear of falling produce a downward spiral of self-imposed activity reduction which leads to loss of strength, flexibility and mobility. With treatment, balance can be improved and allow individuals to resume more normal activity levels in their home and community. This program was developed for those individuals who are experiencing balance-related disorders to the point that it is adversely affecting their lives.

Vestibular Rehabilitation Therapy

Vestibular rehabilitation therapy is a technique of developing exercises based on the actual head movements and activities that cause the dizziness and imbalance problems for an individual. Most people will naturally avoid these movements. This may result in the problem worsening over time. By performing exercises based on these motions, the brain is forced to confront and resolve these conflicts. This process takes time and effort but may prevent many long term problems or disabilities that may otherwise arise from the disorder. Typically, patients with motion-provoked types of dizziness disorders will benefit the most from this treatment.

Physical therapists apply research and proven techniques to help people get back motion. All physical therapists are required to receive a graduate degree – either master’s degree or a clinical doctorate – from an accredited physical therapist program before taking the national licensure examination that allows them to practice. State licensure is required in each state in which a physical therapists practices. They are trusted health care professionals with extensive clinical experience who examine, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life.

Your physical therapists may choose to team with a physical therapist assistant (PTA). PTAs are educated and licensed clinicians that work under the direction and supervision of a physical therapist to improve your mobility and help you move forward.

PTAs must complete rigorous academic and clinical education associate degree programs; pass a national licensure examination and be licensed or certified by the states in which they work.

Pelvic Health Therapy

The pelvic floor is the group of muscles, ligaments and tissue that supports the organs in your pelvic area. These muscles are responsible for controlling bladder and bowel movements as well as other functions. When your pelvic floor muscles become weak or damaged, it affects the surrounding organs and is known as pelvic floor dysfunction.

Pelvic health therapy can help you strengthen and retrain these muscles so they function better. A series of appointments with a physical therapist will help you improve your pelvic floor strength and coordination.

Our pelvic health therapist has received advanced training through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute and American Physical Therapy Association Section of Pelvic Health to treat men, women and children who are experiencing pelvic health disorders. Our expertise and experience allow us to design a program to meet your specific needs. Learn more about pelvic health therapy
